1. Functional Specification
Write down what is required
1. Make a list of all locations.
Record each location. Include any
potential sites that might be added later. Determining the
maximum network size early will aid in selecting the proper antennas,
antenna heights, number of frequencies required and in
turn significantly reduces lifetime system costs.
2. Determine how much data will be sent to and from each location.
These details should be very specific and include as much as possible:
- Connected device(s)
- Network Data Protocol
- Connection Wiring Type (RS-232, RS-485, RJ-45, etc..)
- Wiring format (DTE or DCE)
- Speed of Data (9600 bps, 19,200 bps, 38,400 bps, etc…)
- Size of data packets
- How often each location will transmit (or be polled by the network)
3. Record the Locations
Gather the latitude and longitude for each location, or the approximate street addresses.
